Ravi Acharya

K. Ravi Acharya, Ph.D., founder, is our Senior Advisor for Structural Biology. Since 1998 he has been Professor of Structural Biology at the University of Bath, Bath, UK. He received his Ph.D. in structural biology at the University of Bangalore, India. He performed postdoctoral studies at the University of Oxford with Sir David Phillips (Lord Phillips of Ellesmere), Prof. Louise Johnson and Prof. David Stuart. He has a distinguished career in protein crystallography, and has solved the structures of numerous physiologically and medically important proteins, including angiotensin-converting enzyme, bacterial toxins and superantigens, angiogenin and related ribonucleases, eosinophil-granule proteins, galacosyltransferases, Charcot-Leyden crystal protein, a-lactalbumin, glycogen phosphorylase and foot-and-mouth disease virus (the first animal virus structure solved outside the United States). He has over 135 publications in prestigious international journals, including six publications in Nature. His main research interest is on structural studies on proteins involved in inflammatory processes.
